'Coronation Street' resident Steve McDonald strikes up an unlikely romance while on holiday but his new love interest has a surprise in store for him.
According to the show's official website, cab-driver Steve, played by Simon Gregson, meets a lady called Shania while holidaying in Malta with Eileen Grimshaw.
Steve later discovers that Shania is actually a man. Actor Antony Berry, who plays Shania, said: "Shania was married to a woman in a straight relationship and then wanted to be a transvestite. This meant the marriage came to an end."
"She's gone on holiday so she can be herself, dress how she wants to dress and not worry about what people think."
"They get drinking in a bar one night and there's a bit of a spark there, but nothing too explicit. There's a lot of flirting and harmless banter," the actor said.
"They have a few drinks and do some karaoke. It's all very light hearted but then Shania tells him that things can't go any further and she tells him the truth."
