An 'Emmerdale' villager is left fighting for his life in the coming weeks after he is shot in a botched armed robbery.

According to the soap's official website, Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) is left lying in a pool of blood after his brother Eli (Joseph Gilgun) accidentally shoots him.

After Marlon and Donna's second mortgage application is rejected, Marlon sets about earning some extra money for the couple by gambling on greyhounds.

His major gamble pays off when he wins big but the bookmaker refuses to pay out, so Marlon decides to steal the takings of the gambling shop, with help of his brother.

But things go wrong during the raid and Eli accidentally discharges his gun, shooting Marlon.

As the police rush to the scene Eli is left with a tough decision. He must either sacrifice his freedom or leave his brother to die at the shop.
