American talk show host Oprah Winfrey has said that she is "shocked" and "disappointed" that her father is writing what has been called a tell-all book about her.

She told New York's Daily News that she initially refused to believe that 74-year-old Vernon Winfrey was planning to write a book, to be called 'Things Unspoken', on his famous daughter.

She said that the worst part of it was Vernon telling her "I meant to tell you I've been working on it."

She said "I would have preferred to have known my father was working on this. It would have been a nice gesture, a courtesy,"

When Winfrey was pregnant at 14, with a child that died weeks after he was born, she went to live with her father in Nashville.

She has previously said that she is grateful to her father for helping her go on, for teaching her discipline and the importance of education.
