The new 'Big Brother' house has been unveiled ahead of the programme's launch show at the end of the month.

A number of changes have been made to the layout of the house, with common-place items seeming out of place in the new purpose-built house.

A source said: "What you see here isn't necessarily what you get. Let's just say there are secret hidey holes and different areas that aren't immediately apparent."

The bathtub has been placed in the middle of the living room and is surrounded by multi-coloured light panels.

The fridge is no longer in the kitchen but has instead been placed at the far end of the garden.

The kettle and the toaster have been locked away in a see-through cabinet, which will only be opened whenever Big Brother decides it should be.

Other additions to the house include a Seventies-style phone at the sink and blinds on the outside of the living room windows.

'Big Brother' house designer Patrick Watson said: "This year we have gone for a cleaner, more adult look, using more textures and colours to brand each area."

The first show in the new series will be aired on 30 May.
