American rapper Snoop Dogg has been refused entry to Australia because of his extensive criminal record.
According to Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews, the star - whose real name is Calvin Broadus - had been told that his visa would be cancelled after he pleaded no contest to gun and drug charges earlier this month in the US.
This man has been a member of a Los Angeles gang, and is still associated with it apparently, that's been involved in murder, robberies and drug dealing in the LA area," Andrews told local radio.
"He doesn't seem the sort of bloke we want in this country."
Broadus was due to fly into Sydney this week to host the MTV Australia Video Music Awards.
The rapper now has 28 days to protest against the decision.
He was sentenced to five years' probation and 800 hours of community service after he pleaded no contest to gun and drug charges in California earlier this month.
Broadus was also convicted of cocaine possession in 1990, charged with gun possession in 1993 and acquitted of murder in 1996.
