Emma Thompson and Michael Gambon are the latest stars to join the film adaptation of the acclaimed Evelyn Waugh book 'Brideshead Revisited'.

Variety reports that Hayley Atwell, Matthew Goode and Ben Whishaw have previously been cast in the film, which will be directed by 'Becoming Jane' director Julian Jarrold.

Set in the years before World War Two, it tells the story of the love triangle between Oxford student Charles Ryder (Goode), his alcoholic friend Sebastian Flyte (Whishaw) and Sebastian's sister Julia (Atwell).

Gambon will play the siblings' father, Lord Marchmain, with Thompson playing his estranged wife, Lady Marchmain.

The $20m film is due to begin shooting in June, with locations in Oxford, Yorkshire, Venice and Morocco.

'Brideshead Revisited' was previously made into a Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews-starring series in the 1980s, and is considered one of the best television dramas ever made.
