Galway actress Aoife Mulholland is to play the lead in two of the weekly shows of 'The Sound of Music' in London's West End after star Connie Fisher was told by her doctor to reduce her performances.
Mulholland was a runner-up to Fisher in the BBC1 show 'How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?', losing out in the semi-final.
The 28-year-old was later cast in 'Chicago' and will continue appearing in that show at the Cambridge Theatre until 31 March.
Mulholland joins 'The Sound of Music' from 9 April and will star in the Monday evening and Wednesday matinee shows.
Fisher returned to the Andrew Lloyd Webber production this week after resting her vocal chords for two weeks but has been told by her doctor to reduce her workload from eight shows a week to six.
Commenting, Lloyd Webber said: "I am thrilled that Connie has returned to the show, fit and well, and welcome Aoife, who gave a sensational audition."
