REM are to work with Irish producer Garret 'Jacknife' Lee on their 14th studio album.

Billboard reports that the band will enter the studio this spring to record the album; it is expected to be released before the end of the year.

Lee also produced U2's 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb', Bloc Party's 'A Weekend in the City' and Snow Patrol's 'Eyes Open' and 'Final Straw'.

REM previously worked with another Irish producer, Pat McCarthy, on their albums 'Around the Sun', 'Reveal' and 'Up'.

REM will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder at a ceremony in New York tonight.
