Ono - Refused permission for documentary screening

Yoko Ono has blocked a screening of a documentary about her late husband, ex-Beatle John Lennon.

'3 Days in the Life' is a new two-hour film edited from footage shot by Ono's first husband Tony Cox in 1970.

Cut down from 10 hours of original footage, it was filmed at a variety of locations over three days, including the Lennon's country estate in England and at rehearsals, just two months before the Beatles split up.

The film also includes Lennon rehearsing for an appearance on 'Top of the Pops', where he performed 'Instant Karma' for the first time.

Ray Thomas, the documentary's executive producer, was unable to secure an artist release for commercial screenings from Ono, whose lawyers contend has a copyright interest in the film.

As a result they decided to do a series of free screenings at high schools and colleges, starting with Berwick Academy, a private school in Maine.

But Ono's lawyers said that she had not authorised any screening of the film and the event had to be cancelled.
