After months of speculation, it has been confirmed that 'Lost' co-creator JJ Abrams will direct the 11th film in the 'Star Trek' franchise.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the film will be a prequel to the original, William Shatner-starring TV series.
It will show the first meeting of James T Kirk and Mr Spock at Starfleet Academy and follow them on their first mission in space.
Abrams is also set to produce the film and casting announcements will be made in the coming months.
