Al Pacino is to introduce celebrated songwriter/singer Van Morrison at the US-Ireland Alliance's second annual Oscar Wilde: Honouring Irish Writing in Film in Los Angeles on Thursday 22 February.

Pacino, who was recently presented with the Honorary Patronage of the Trinity College University Philosophical Society, is currently working on a documentary about Oscar Wilde's play 'Salomé'.

He agreed to participate in the pre-Academy Awards party because he is a friend and fan of Morrison's.

Alliance President Trina Vargo also announced that screenwriter William Monahan ('The Departed', 'Kingdom of Heaven') will be honoured, joining Morrison and critically acclaimed Belfast-born writer/director Terry George, of 'Hotel Rwanda' and 'Hart's War' fame.

The US-Ireland Alliance created this event in 2006 to foster ties between the film industries in the US and Ireland and to honour Irish writing in film.

Last year Jim Sheridan, Neil Jordan and David Holmes were the three honourees.
