Take That star Mark Owen has slammed the celebrities who mocked his former bandmate Robbie Williams, following his decision to enter rehab.

Williams is currently being treated at the Priory Clinic in the US after revealing that he was addicted to prescription medication.

Owen has voiced his support for Williams after a number of celebrities made jokes about the singer at the Brit Awards last week.

Presenter Russell Brand referred to a giant padlock on stage at the awards, saying that it was Williams' medicine cabinet.

Oasis star Noel Gallagher also commented on the singer's stint in rehab, saying: "We've all been there, but if you can't stand the heat..."

In a new interview in Reveal magazine, Owen said that the comments made last week were unjustified.

"I felt bad at the Brits because there were some jokes said about Robbie that made it look like he was being mocked," Owen said.

"When I heard about him checking into rehab I felt really sad - I just want him to get happy again."

"I'll do anything I can to help him. If he wants me to see him, I'll be straight on that plane," he said. "Rob was always my mate and I always felt very close to him. I'm so worried about him."

"I'm gutted and devastated things have ended up like this. I think he should come back to the UK."

Owen's bandmate Howard Donald also said: "I'm upset some people think it's our success that's made him depressed."
