Footage from the hit TV series 'Lost' was destroyed when film canisters were accidentally X-rayed at Honolulu International Airport.
The Honolulu Advertiser says that the incident occurred when the film canisters were mixed with passenger luggage by mistake and sent through the X-ray machines.
The canisters were reportedly left unattended at the X-ray machines along with non-film luggage and the footage was then X-rayed despite warning labels on the canisters.
The 'Lost' crew were then forced to reshoot the scenes because there were no copies.
Commenting, Hawaii's State Film Commissioner, Donne Dawson, said: "This is the first time anything like this has happened."
Dawson said that procedures were now in place to prevent such an incident happening again.
'Lost's co-executive producer Jean Higgins said the mix-up would not affect the show's broadcast schedule and declined to say how much the incident cost the show's makers.
'Lost' returns to RTÉ Two tonight at 10.05pm.
