The family of a woman killed in a freeway crash involving singer-actress Brandy are suing the actress-singer for $50m.
On Monday the California Highway Patrol recommended that prosecutors charge Brandy with a misdemeanour count of vehicular manslaughter.
The parents of Awatef Aboudihaj filed the $50m wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court yesterday.
According to California Highway Patrol spokesman Leland Tang, the police investigations found that the performer was at fault in the accident which occurred on 30 December. Investigators ruled out alcohol, drugs and other distractions as factors.
Brandy's spokeswoman said: "the accident was a terrible tragedy and Brandy's heart goes out to Awatef Aboudihaj's family. But for legal reasons we cannot comment on this lawsuit."
