007 actor Daniel Craig, co-star Eva Green and director Martin Campbell last night attended the Beijing premiere of 'Casino Royale', the first Bond film to be officially shown in China.
Only a small number of Western films get an official release in China and, even then can easily fall foul of government censors.
Pirated DVDs, however, are freely available and Craig said that he had been offered an illegal copy at a market.
"Someone tried to sell me a copy last night," Craig said. "I was wearing a hat and glasses so they didn't recognise me."
"I understand the reality of the situation and it saddens me, not just because of the effect it has on the movie industry but because going to the cinema is a great experience," he added.
'Casino Royale' is due to be shown on 1,000 screens throughout China.
