Oscar-nominated actress Penélope Cruz is expected to play the female lead in Pedro Almodóvar's upcoming film, 'La Piel Que Habito'.
Variety reports that Almodóvar, who directed Cruz in her Oscar-nominated performance in 'Volver', announced the project in December; at that time the trade daily says it was probable Cruz would have a role in the film.
'La Piel Que Habito' is based on Thierry Jonquet's 1995 novel 'Mygale' and tells the story of a plastic surgeon who exacts revenge on his daughter's rapists.
Almodóvar's producer brother Augustin said that it was "70%-80% certain" that 'La Piel Que Habito' would be the director's next film.
"But Pedro always works on several ideas at the same time, and he has a second screenplay on the go as well," he said.
