'Coronation Street' legend Johnny Briggs is to appear in BBC1 medical drama 'Holby City'.

The star will feature in a two-part 'Holby City' special for broadcast at the end of next month, the BBC confirmed.

Briggs, 71, left Corrie last year after 30 years playing underwear factory boss Mike Baldwin.

He was expected to retire and spend most of his time at his luxury home in Florida.

Briggs will play a patient who turns up in hospital with his son, and attracts attention for his strange behaviour.

A spokesperson at the BBC said: "We're delighted we've managed to get Johnny as he's not really doing that much acting any more."
