Bindi Irwin, the 8-year-old daughter of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, is beginning a tour of the US, with high-profile television appearances and shows across the country.

The tour comes ahead of the launch of Bindi's new 26-part television series 'Bindi, the Jungle Girl', which will air on the Discovery Kids network later this year.

As part of the promotional tour, the 8-year-old is due to appear on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' and 'The Late Show with David Letterman'.

Discovery senior vice-president Annie Howell said: "She'll be welcomed with open arms and rightly so. She's a very special child."

The US tour coincides with the airing of 'Ocean's Deadliest', the documentary series that Steve Irwin was working on at the time of his death.

The 44-year-old television star was stabbed in the chest by a stingray barb while filming underwater.

His manager John Stainton said of Bindi's tour: "That's what her dad did for the last three years, he went over every year and did that and he did a big show."

Bindi will be joined by Crocmen backing dancers for her show while on tour and will also team up with The Wiggles for concerts in Los Angeles and New York.
