Pop singer Lily Allen has been reunited with her dog Maggie May, after it was stolen from a van at the end of December.

The 21-year-old singer offered a reward after her English bull terrier went missing from a friend's van, where it was secured in a cage.

Allen revealed on her myspace page that she got the dog back after receiving a call from a man who claimed to have bought the dog as a present for his sister.

Allen paid the reward money to the man in exchange for the safe return of the dog.

She said: "I have the best news ever. Maggie May is back at home safe and sound. She is riddled with fleas, a bit sad and very thin, but that's not the point."

"I can't tell you how overjoyed I am to have her back, how grateful I am to everyone who has sent kind words and helped to find her," Allen said.

The singer said the police and the RSPCA were involved in the case because she suspected that her dog had been held with other stolen dogs because of her condition.

She also said that the people who returned the dog offered to sell her friends puppies, which made her suspicious of them.
