The father of the Malawian boy that singer Madonna wishes to adopt has said that he wants to ask the star how his son is getting on.

Yohane Banda, father of 1-year-old David Banda, told Malawi's Daily Times: "I don't have her phone and mailing addresses. All I want is to find out how my son is but I don't know how I can do it."

"I only talked to her once at the High Court and I want to talk to her now and find out about my child," he said.

"All I want is to find out how my child is doing and not to have him back," the boy's father said.

David Banda is currently in the custody of Madonna and her film director husband Guy Ritchie after they signed interim adoption papers.

The child is due to stay with Madonna and Ritchie for 18 months, during which time his progress will be monitored by Malawian officials before they decide whether final approval will be given for him to remain with their family.

A number of human rights groups have mounted a challenge against the adoption of the boy, claiming that the singer bypassed laws in order to speed up the adoption process.
