'Murphy's America', the acclaimed Mike Murphy documentary series which was first shown when RTÉ2 began broadcasting in 1978, is to be given a new lease of life on RTÉ Two from January.
As part of the joint collaboration between the Television Archive Project and the Archive Production Unit (APU) in RTÉ to restore ground-breaking RTÉ programmes, the series will be shown in the RTÉ Two 'Take Two' slot beginning on Wednesday 3 January at 8pm.
The series followed presenter Mike Murphy as he visited six US states: Montana, Tennessee, New York, Nevada, California and Florida.
The first programme in the series, 'Montana', finds Murphy trying to untangle the myths surrounding the Wild West; visiting one of the largest ranches in the US and riding a buffalo in a rodeo competition.
In upcoming episodes he will be seen singing at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry; following New York police officers during the course of their work; visiting Las Vegas; meeting stars in Hollywood and waterskiing on the backs of two dolphins in Miami.
'Murphy's America' will be shown at 8pm on Wednesday nights on RTÉ Two from 3 January to 14 February.
