George Michael ended his greatest hits tour with a free concert for NHS nurses in North London.

The BBC reports that Michael was introduced to an invited audience of 2,000 at the Roundhouse Theatre by comedienne Catherine Tate, dressed in a nurse's uniform.

The concert was announced last month, prompted by the care given to his mother, who died of cancer in 1997.

"The nurses that helped my family at that time were incredible people, and I realised just how undervalued these amazing people are," he wrote on his website.

Also in the audience were comedians David Walliams and Ricky Gervais, along with Michael's boyfriend, Kenny Goss, as the singer performed hits drawn from his 25-year career.

Michael played Dublin's Point Theatre earlier this month.
