'The Wind that Shakes the Barley', Ken Loach's film about the Irish War of Independence and Civil War in the 1920s, has received three nominations from the London Film Critics Circle.

Loach himself is in competition for best British Director, while producer Rebecca O'Brien was nominated in the British Producer category.

The film, which has already won the  prestigious Palme d'Or award at this year's Cannes Film Festival, was also nominated for the Attenborough Award, or best British Film of the year, along with 'The Queen', 'Children of Men', 'Red Road' and 'The Last King of Scotland'.

Starring Cillian Murphy and Pádraic Delaney, 'The Wind That Shakes The Barley' tells the story of two brothers who fought together during the War of Independence and against each other in the Civil War.

The most nominated film was 'The Queen', with seven, followed by 'The Last King of Scotland' with five.

The award ceremony will take place on 8 February.
