Letters and postcards written by Samuel Beckett made £243,200 (€360,000 euro) yesterday at Sotheby's auction house in London.
The collection had an estimated price of between £150,000 - £200,000 (220,000 - 300,000 euro).
The writings, sent from Paris, Dublin, London, Berlin, Stuttgart and Ussy-sur-Marne, were letters and postcards sent to Beckett's lifelong friends, painters Henri and Josette Hayden.
Also in the auction were early editions of some of the Irish novelist's books and plays, including 'Krapp's Last Tape' and 'More Pricks Than Kicks'.
