Singer Jamelia is recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery following her collapse while filming for a television show last week.
According to her manager, the 25-year-old singer was "doubled up in pain" last Thursday while recording a Spanish music programme.
She was rushed back to the UK, where doctors diagnosed an umbilical hernia, a hereditary condition that causes pain around the stomach area.
Her manager Jonathan Shalit said: "They said she had an umbilical hernia, a hereditary condition that is also related to the after effect of having children."
He also confirmed that she had undergone surgery for the condition, saying the she hoped to recover in time to sing at the Royal Variety Performance on 4 December.
