Former 'Home and Away' star Belinda Emmett has died after a battle with cancer. She was 32.

The actress, who played Rebecca Fisher in the soap, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998 and left the show to have treatment.

She later went into remission and returned to her acting work, but was diagnosed with secondary bone cancer in 2001.

According to reports, Emmett died at a hospital in Sydney at the weekend. Her husband, talkshow host Rove McManus, and family members were at her bedside.

Her family released a statement, saying: "It is with great sadness we advise that Belinda Emmett's battle with cancer has ended."

Her husband has decided to take time out from his chat show. He posted a message on his website, saying: "This is a very difficult period for all of us and some time away is the best thing for me right now."

"In the meantime I want to extend my sincerest thanks for all of your heartfelt messages and condolences," he said in the statement.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard paid tribute to Emmett, saying: "She fought a very courageous battle".

Emmett also starred as nurse Jodi Horner in the Australian medical drama 'All Saints'.
