Oscar-winning actor Jack Palance (87) dies

Legendary American actor Jack Palance has died at the age of 87, bringing to an end a career that spanned six decades.

Palance, who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1992 for 'City Slickers', was most associated with his performance as the villainous gunslinger in 1953's classic western 'Shane', a role for which he was also Oscar nominated.

His first nomination was for 1952's 'Sudden Fear,' in which he starred opposite Joan Crawford.

According to his spokesman Dick Guttman, Palance died of natural causes at home in Montecito, California.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
