Russia has banned Sacha Baron Cohen's comic film, 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan'.

The Russian Federal Culture and Cinematography Agency has refused to provide the mocumentary with a distribution license.

"The film contains material that some viewers may consider offensive to certain nationalities and religions," said Agency official Yury Vasyuchkov.

According to The Moscow Times, 'Borat' is one of the first non-pornographic films to be banned in Russia since the breakup of the Soviet Union.

The film had been scheduled to open in 300 Russian cinemas on 30 November.
