Des O'Connor looks set to become the new host of 'Countdown'.
The 74-year-old is thought to be in negotiations about taking over the TV quiz from current host Des Lynam, reports British newspaper the Daily Mirror.
And it seems Des, who was thought to have had a screen test for the role last month, has got the thumbs up from the show's co-host Carol Vorderman.
"Carol is thrilled," a source told the paper. "Des has just the right chemistry with her which is the most important thing."
CH4 bosses were forced to start searching for a replacement for Des Lynam after he announced he is to quit at Christmas.
Lynam said he was fed up with travelling to Leeds, where the show is filmed.
Michael Aspel, Eamonn Holmes and Stephen Fry have all been linked to the job.
Des Lynam took over the Channel 4 show after its original host Richard Whiteley died last year.
