Rocker Pete Doherty has been fined £750 after pleading guilty to an assault on a BBC reporter after a court appearance in March.
The Babyshambles frontman appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court today after being charged as a result of an incident in which he kicked a microphone out of the hand of a female reporter.
The singer had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges but his defence lawyer said that he had decided to change his plea after watching video footage of the incident, which occurred on 23 March this year.
The court heard how Mr Doherty had made contact with reporter Trudi Barber's hand, when he kicked her microphone away outside the court.
Ms Barber's hand had been hurt in the incident and she also suffered shoulder pain afterwards and had trouble sleeping.
In a statement, Mr Doherty said: "If I hurt this lady I'm sorry", but he later described the reporter as part of the "harassing scum of press".
Magistrate Helen Skinner said: "Referring to the press as scum does no one any favours. You were obviously courting publicity judging by your somewhat extravagant behaviour outside the court.
"People in public life have a responsibility to behave and be a good role model to others," she said.
The singer was fined £750 and ordered to pay £250 compensation and a further £200 in court costs.
In response to this he told the court that he was not able to pay the fine on the day as he only had 27p on him. Mr Doherty was given seven days to make the payment.
