Irish writers John Banville and Sebastian Barry are among the authors longlisted for the 2007 International Impac Dublin Literary Award.

A total of 138 novels were nominated for this year's €100,000 award by 169 libraries around the world.

Banville's Booker Prize-winning 'The Sea' and 'Sebastian Barry's 'A Long Long Way', which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, are in competition with 21 Britons, seven Australians, seven South Africans, four New Zealanders and 28 Americans.

28 of the nominated books are works in translation, including Haruki Murakami, Isabel Allende, Luiz Alfredo Garcia-Roza and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Other nominated books include Kazuo Ishiguro's 'Never Let Me Go', 'Shalimar The Clown' by Salman Rushdie, Ian McEwan's 'Saturday' and 'On Beauty' by Zadie Smith.

The short list will be announced on 4 April 2007 and the winner on 14 June next.
