'X Factor' star Ashley McKenzie has said that he believes that Louis Walsh voted him off the show at the weekend in order to eliminate the toughest competition.

The 20-year-old singer lost out after his performance of 'The Winner Takes It All' in the Abba themed night.

After his elimination, Ashley said: "Louis obviously wants to win the competition and Simon had all four acts left in. I wouldn't say he was being spiteful; he's just in it to win and he had to get rid of one of us."

"Last week when I forgot my words, my confidence had been knocked and that was running through my mind constantly, thinking 'oh I'm going to lose these words again'," he said.

"It was Simon's decision to make me sing like that but I was more than confident with the song and I didn't think it was out of tune, personally. I wasn't disappointed at all. But it wasn't my genre of music."

"This is a pop competition and I'm not really poppy, I'm more soulful and R n B," the singer said.

Simon Cowell branded Louis Walsh "spiteful" for his decision to get rid of Ashley, while Sharon Osbourne said that the show wasn't "the right competition for Ashley".
