Rocker Pete Doherty has denied starting a fight with a photographer after his recent concert in Rome.

The Evening Standard newspaper previously reported that the Babyshambles singer was involved in a brawl with a photographer outside his hotel.

A witness claimed that Doherty was "dripping with blood" after the alleged incident and was later treated by fans and band members.

However, a spokesperson for the singer said that the allegations were untrue, claiming that Doherty was bleeding because he had been hit with a camera.

The spokesperson said: "Pete Doherty totally denies that he instigated a fight with a photographer in Rome."

"Reports that the photographer might make an official complaint will certainly interest Pete's lawyers, who can call on witnesses who clearly saw Pete being hit with a camera outside his hotel."

Earlier that night, at the Babyshambles concert in Rome, Doherty reportedly brandished a microphone stand at fans in the front row.
