Phantom FM's launch date confirmed

Dublin's first dedicated alternative rock music station Phantom FM has confirmed it is to begin broadcasting from 31 October, almost two years after being awarded its licence.

The station was originally due on air last year but was delayed due to a Supreme Court appeal brought by Zed FM, an unsuccessful consortium backed by Bob Geldof.

The station today unveiled its list of presenters and programme schedule, which will include themed evenings dedicated to different genres of music.

It said it hopes to deliver something unique to alternative rock fans and pledged to put a strong emphasis on Irish music, particularly unsigned bands.

Phantom FM is backed by a wide range of individuals and companies, including U2 manager Paul McGuinness and promoter Denis Desmond.
