Gibson - "stupid rambling"

Mel Gibson has spoken out for the first time since his arrest in July on drink driving charges and his subsequent anti-Semitic comments.

He spoke to American newswoman Diane Sawyer in an interview that will air in later this week on 'Good Morning America', calling his rant, "the stupid rambling of a drunkard".

The Oscar-winner has made few public appearances since the episode in July for which he has since issued a public apology for what he called "vitriolic and harmful words".

In the interview Gibson also discussed his battle with alcoholism.

He entered rehab toward the end of July and pleaded no contest in August to a misdemeanour DUI charge, receiving three years probation and a $1,600 fine, as well as an order to attend Alcoholics Anonymous and enrol in a three-month treatment program.
