Former 'EastEnders' star Shane Richie has admitted that he lied to the show's bosses in order to get time off to work on a film.

The actor, who played barman Alfie Moon in the soap, revealed the lies during an interview on 'Parkinson'.

Richie said that he pretended that he needed to have some dental work done so that he could fly to Los Angeles to record a voice-over for animated movie 'Flushed Away'.

The actor said: "I was signed to 'EastEnders' at the time, BBC contract you're not allowed to do anything else, I had to keep making up these lies."

"I've had so many tooth aches to get out to Los Angeles and do the voice over," he said.

"The one time I did it, they wanted me to go out for a week. I knew I couldn't say I was going to have a holiday, and I'm giving this away now and I feel awful! I had to pretend weeks leading up to this week off, I had something wrong with my wisdom teeth," Richie admitted.
