The BBC has defended presenter Graham Norton after he revealed in a magazine interview that he had taken "loads of drugs", describing some of them as "just fantastic".
The television host and comedian made the comments during an interview with Janet Street-Porter for Marie Claire magazine.
Norton said in the interview: "I've tried loads of drugs, but it would really bug me if I got busted in the tabloids because I take them so rarely."
A spokesperson for the BBC said: "The issues that Graham discusses in this interview are aimed at an adult audience and reflect the frank and open nature of his personality."
A spokesman for the National Drug Prevention Alliance said: "We're appalled, it's absolutely mind-blowing that somebody has said that."
Norton recently signed a deal reported to be worth several million pounds to stay at the BBC for the next three years.
