Coldplay have moved to deny Internet reports that the quartet are planning a five-year hiatus.

MTV News reports that Ambrosia Healy, a spokesperson for the band's label Capitol, wrote to MTV News this week following the appearance of the story on various websites and message boards.

"The band is enjoying a much-deserved break, which I think everybody already knows. No, there isn't a self-imposed 'five-year hiatus'," said Healy.

Healy continued: "There isn't a timetable for them recording the follow-up to 'X&Y'. They're enjoying not having a plan at the moment. Isn't that what a break is all about?"

Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman became a father last month while drummer Will Champion and his wife had their first child in April.
