Cork's 2006 Art Trail features a series of presentations by national and international artists from tonight, Thursday 28 September all weekend until Monday 2 October.
This year's programme includes installations, workshops, seminars and performance in Shandon and other locations around Cork City.
The opening event, which is open to all, will take place in Fionnbarra's pub on Douglas Street on Friday 29 September at 8pm with DJs Darragh Martin and PSV DJ's from Plugd Records.
Art Trail has also created three awards for emerging practitioners, aimed at nurturing Cork's burgeoning artistic talents and promoting professionalism across the arts practice.
The New Curator's award was made to Mary Cremin, who has mounted an exhibition to create dialogue about public space called 'From Where I Stand'.
Richard Gavin won the New Design Award for the Design of Art Trail's 2006 catalogue and the Graduate Showcase Award went to three emerging artists from the Crawford College of Art and Design: Maureen Considine, David Grannell and Mark Whelan, mentored by Danielle Sheehy.
In response to continuing debate over studio practice and the practicalities of making art, Art Trail presents 'Who needs a Studio?' with Deirdra Nolan, founder of the Backwater Artists Studios; Maria Finucane of Rural Studio communities; and Jacinta Lynch, founder of Broadstone Studios in Dublin.
Other events taking place include Fetish in a Box at Triskel, work from digital video artists at 'Ob-Scene' and Sound Art from Danny McCarthy's 'Bend it Like Beckett'
