Cork Film Festival joins Prix UIP network

The Cork Film Festival has joined the film festivals across Europe hosting the prestigious Prix UIP competition for short films.

29 short films will compete for the Prix UIP Cork at this year's festival and these shorts will also screen in international competition at the festival, which runs from 8 to 15 October.

The winner of the Prix UIP Cork will then join the winning films from the other festivals on the shortlist for the European Film Academy Short Film Prix UIP.

The Irish films competing for the Prix UIP Cork are: 'A Lonely Sky' (Director: Nick Ryan); 'If () Then () Else ()' (Director: Mike Liffey); 'Imagine This' (Director: John Callaghan); 'Pilgrim' (Director: Matthew Darragh) and 'Venom' (Director John Hayes).

Films from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Wales, Turkey and Ukraine are also competing for the Prix UIP Cork.

Commenting on the Cork Film Festival's hosting of the Prix UIP, Mick Hannigan, Director of the Cork Film Festival, said: "It gives us great pleasure to host the prestigious Prix UIP for the first time and I invite members of the public to attend screenings and view the wealth of talent that exists within the European film industry."
