Frank McCourt's 'Teacher Man: A Memoir' is among the nominees for American book award The Quills.
The Limerick-born man's account of teaching high school English in New York City is nominated in the Audio Book category, for which he read an abridged version of 'Teacher Man'.
Two shortlisted authors were nominated twice: Julie Powell's 'Julie and Julia' for Debut Author of the Year and in the Cooking category; 'Marley and Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog' by John Grogan is up against McCourt for the Audio Book award and in the Biography/Memoir section.
Other nominees include horror writer Stephen King for 'Cell', former presidential candidate Al Gore for 'An Inconvenient Truth' and E L Doctorow for his civil war novel, 'March'.
This is the second year of The Quills, which aim to celebrate excellence in writing and publishing and interest more consumers in acquiring books and reading.
The nominees in 19 categories were chosen by 6,000 booksellers and librarians across the United States and the public determining the award winners in online voting.
The awards will be presented on 10 October.
