Keane frontman Tom Chaplin has revealed he is being treated for drink and drug addiction.

In a message on the band’s website he confessed his addictions to alcohol and cocaine are the reasons the band have cancelled a string of gigs across Europe including a date in Dublin.

The singer previously cited exhaustion for the ditched shows but now revealed he's checked into celebrity rehabilitation clinic The Priory to overcome his problems.

Chaplin was admitted to the UK centre last Monday but was temporarily released to perform at this weekend's V Festivals in Staffordshire and Essex.

He said: "I've admitted myself to The Priory to get the professional help I need to overcome my increasing problem with drink and drugs.

"I'm looking forward to sorting myself out and getting back to playing again as soon as possible."
