Heath Ledger is to star as The Joker opposite Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the sequel to 'Batman Begins', 'The Dark Knight'.
The Hollywood Reporter says that director Christopher Nolan will return for the sequel.
The script for the film will be written by Nolan's brother Jonathan from a story by the director and David Goyer.
The plan is for the film to begin shooting early next year.
