Mercury Prize nominations revealed

The nominees for the 2006 Mercury Prize have been announced with Arctic Monkeys, Thom Yorke, Muse and Editors among the shortlisted artists.

Arctic Monkeys and Editors are nominated for their debut albums 'Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not' and 'The Back Room' respectively.

Yorke is shortlisted for his album 'The Eraser' while Muse are nominated for the just-released 'Black Holes and Revelations'.

Also nominated are Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan for their album 'Ballad of the Broken Seas'; Guillemots for the acclaimed 'Through the Windowpane' and Sway for 'This Is My Demo'.

Completing the shortlist are: Richard Hawley ('Coles Corner'); Hot Chip ('The Warning'); Zoe Rahman ('Melting Pot'); Lou Rhodes ('Beloved One') and Scritti Politti ('White Bread, Black Beer').

The winner will be announced in London on 5 September.
