Shaw - Celebration at No. 33 Synge Street

Dublin will commemorate George Bernard Shaw - dramatist, literary critic, socialist spokesman, and leading figure in 20th century theatre - at a celebration of his 150th birthday during July.

Born in Dublin, Shaw is the only person to receive both a Nobel Prize for Literature, in 1925, and an Oscar.

In 1938 he won the Oscar for the screenplay he wrote based on his own play, 'Pygmalion'. 'Pygmalion' was later adapted and filmed as 'My Fair Lady'.

Other plays that he wrote include 'Candida' (1898), 'John Bull's Other Island' (1904), 'Heartbreak House' (1919) and 'Saint Joan' (1923).

A celebration of his 150th birthday with readings, guided tours and performances will take place at his birthplace, No. 33 Synge Street, from Saturday 22 July to Friday 28 July.
