Jackman - Joins cast of Luhrmann film

Following Russell Crowe's departure from director Baz Luhrmann's as-yet-untitled Australian period epic, it has been announced that Hugh Jackman will now star opposite Nicole Kidman in the movie.

The Hollywood Reporter describes the film as a "romantic action-adventure" which takes place in Northern Australia before the start of the Second World War.

Kidman plays an English aristocrat who inherits land and teams up with a cattle driver (Jackman) to take 2,000 cattle across the country, with many pitfalls and dangers along the way.

Commenting on Jackman, Luhrmann said: "He just continues to astound in terms of his range, whether it's 'Boy from Oz' or 'Wolverine'. He's always been a leading man, but he is moving toward being an iconic leading man, which is perfect for the story we're doing."
