Russell Crowe has left director Baz Luhrmann's planned Australian period epic.
Variety reports that the actor left the project after disagreements with movie studio 20th Century Fox.
Luhrmann and star Nicole Kidman will still make the film.
The trade daily says that reports that Heath Ledger would replace Crowe on the film are inaccurate and that Ledger has declined the role.
