D12 rapper Proof, who was shot dead last week in a nightclub argument in Detroit, was buried in the city yesterday.

Billboard reports that the two-hour 15-minute funeral service at the Fellowship Chapel on Detroit's Northwest side was attended by nearly 2,000 mourners, including Eminem and the other members of D12 and 50 Cent, Dr Dre, Obie Trice and Xzibit.

Eminem and the other members of D12 served as honorary pallbearers at the ceremony.

32-year-old Proof, real name Deshaun Holton, was shot dead at the CCC nightclub in Detroit on 11 April after arguing with another man.

Police say the rapper shot 35-year-old Keith Bender, who died on Tuesday from his injuries.

Separately Bender's cousin, Mario Etheridge, has pleaded not guilty to charges of carrying a concealed weapon and discharge of a firearm in a building.

During yesterday's funeral service, Pastor Wendell Anthony said: "Deshaun was and is important to God, just like Keith Bender was and is important to God."

He told mourners: "Don't die before you finish living... It is time for us to stop shedding needless tears."

In a plea for peace and tolerance, rapper Obie Trice said: "We're killing each other... and it's about nothing."

Paying tribute to Proof, who was best man at his January wedding, Eminem said: "Without Proof there would be no Eminem, no Slim Shady, no D12."

Proof was later buried at Detroit's Woodlawn Cemetery; he is survived by his wife and five children.
