'Coronation Street' character Mike Baldwin will appear in his final scenes in the soap tonight, when he dies in Ken Barlow's arms, after suffering a heart attack.
Over the past few months viewers have seen Mike, who is played by Johnny Briggs, deteriorate both mentally and physically, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
Tonight Mike, who was recently hospitalised with pneumonia, will suffer a heart attack while wandering around Coronation Street.
He is found by arch rival Ken Barlow, who once came to blows with him over an affair with his wife Deirdre.
Briggs, who has played the character for nearly 30 years, recently backed an awareness campaign by the Alzheimer's Society.
He said: "I was lucky when the director said 'cut' I could walk away from Alzheimer's disease. Thousands can't."
