'The Simpsons' will make their big screen debut in 2007.
The Hollywood Reporter says that a teaser trailer for the film debuted on Friday before screenings of 'Ice Age: The Meltdown' is US cinemas.
The trailer said that 'The Simpsons Movie' would be released in the US on 27 July 2007.
The 28-second trailer begins with a giant superhero 'S' shield; a narrator then speaks of "The Greatest Hero in American History" before Homer is revealed, sitting on his couch and uttering the line "I forgot what I was supposed to say."
When the narrator announces the film's release date, Homer says: "Uh, oh... we better get started."
The trailer was assembled in three weeks with producers deciding that it was a better way to announce the film than a press announcement.
The film will be directed by David Silver, the co-director of 'Monsters Inc', who has shot many episodes of 'The Simpsons' and recently became Supervising Director on the series.
All the principal voice cast from the series will be involved in the film, which will also feature new characters.
